“Is this for a job interview?“ he counters in a rather flat tone, yet the lighthearted smirk that tugs at the corners of his lips serves to show that he was simply joking. Really, it wasn’t everyday he’d come across strangers wanting to know these sort of things about himself. But he isn’t about to turn the guy down off the bat either— it’s not like it was too personal a question anyway.
“It’s not very fair of me to point out my greatest strength; unless you want a biased answer from me. I like to think I’ve got a lot of great qualities, after all.”
“… But,” he cuts in, “I think my greatest strength would be my assertiveness.”
It wasn’t that he meant to boast about it— after all, it was only the truth. He had the ability that even a wide majority of Hunters lacked; the ability to use his own initiative to take on challenges with efficiency. He had fierce determination, well-kept self control and a near unshakable will. He had integrity. And, he had just the right leadership skills to defend his claims and prove his worth.
But to be a skilled leader, one has to have tact. Conviction alone was not enough; one needed quick wits, precision, a good sense of discretion and fair judgement to be able to lead people down the right path. And those qualities just happen to be yet another part of his identity.
Now that he thought about it, perhaps courage and intellect go hand in hand as one great strength. It just seemed natural— because to him, a leader that lacks any one of these traits would only seem… incomplete. It was fundamental to him.
But then again, there were all kinds of “fair judgments” out there; just like there were judgments made out of reason, and those out of instinct. Therein lies complexity.
“Hey, now I’m flattered that you’d want to know about that,” sarcasm seems to edge into his tone at first; yet he is interested in what this stranger’s reasoning might be, going so far as to approach him for it. “But why the sudden curiosity?”
